AUGUST NEWS FROM VANTAGE POINTE

BOARD NEWS AND VIEWS

$$$$$$$$$$$ - Yes, we've been very fortunate this month to find out that the renewal of our insurance policy on the clubhouse was sold to a new company and our policy cost for the same coverage is only $1400+ and that results in a savings of $4,300 +.  It's refreshing to see that our insurance people are doing something to keep costs down whenever possible.

During the month, we have had further conversation with the Highlands County Sheriffs Office.  Det. Michael Huften is working the incidents from late June and trying to build a case against some suspects.  If you or anyone you know, lost anything during that or any other time in the past 6 - 8 weeks, please contact the Sheriffs Office at 402-7250 and ask for Detective Huften to file a report

A new activity, water volleyball, will be starting soon at the swimming pool.  Time: 3 - 4 PM, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  Watch the bulletin boards for an official starting date.  Gary Rathbun is coordinating this activity.  Thanks Gary for your efforts.

South Florida Water Management met recently and decided to continue the watering restrictions through September 30 in their current form.  We are still in a severe drought area because of the three year rainfall deficiency.

AROUND THE POINTE

TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN IN THE MID-NINETIES EVERY DAY WITH A DECENT AMOUNT OF RAIN.  MOST YARDS ARE NICE AND GREEN WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS, AND OF COURSE SHRUBS, PLANTS AND WEEDS ARE GROWING RAPIDLY.

NO AUGUST DINNER ACTIVITY HAS BEEN PLANNED AS OF THIS DATE DUE TO LACK OF VOLUNTEERS.

Jerry Syfert received the following e-mail from our County Admin. Michael Wright dated July 20th.

Based on the most recent evaluation of all County roads, Pointe West made the list to be rebuilt this year.  Depending on the amount of available funding allocated for the next fiscal year, Vantage Trace should be on the list for the following fiscal year.  Vantage Circle and Pointe East are probably several years out and that will depend on available funding and how those road(s) compare to other County roads on the next evaluation.  If the streets in your subdivision were asphalt, it would be a much simpler task.  However, because they are concrete and do not have a normal sub-base, when the roads are repaired, the County is going to have to remove the concrete, go down about 10 to 12 inches and rebuild the sub-base and then put down a layer of asphalt.  It is a much more costly process than a typical resurfacing that we do on the vast majority of the roads in the County.
Please let me know if I can provide additional information or if you want information on the evaluation proces, contact Kyle Green at Road and Bridge.

AROUND TOWN

THE FORMER BARNHILLS AND FARMER'S MARKET BUFFET BUILDING WILL BE TORN DOWN AND REPLACED BY AN ALDI GROCERY STORY.  A 17,000 SQUARE-FOOT STORE WILL REPLACE THE RECENTLY REFURBISHED 10,540 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING.  THE NEW STORE IS NOT EXPECTED TO OPEN UNTIL LATE 2010 OR  EARLY 2011.  ALDI IS AN INTERNATIONAL CHAIN WITH MORE THAN 8,500 STORES WORLDWIDE.  IT HAS A CORPORATE OFFICE IN HAINES CITY.  IT HAS A REPUTATION AS A DISCOUNT STORE, SOMETIMES IN COMPETITION WITH WALMART.

FOR ALL OF THE HEARTLAND ART LEAGUE FANS, THE PURPLE HOUSE IS GOING GREEN!  THE SEBRING CITY COUNCIL GAVE HIGHLAND ART LEAGUE PERMISSION TO REPAINT THE PURPLE HOUSE  DURING THEIR MEETING LAST WEEK.  ACCORDING TO THE LEAGUE IT IS GOING TO BE A NICE CALMING GREEN WITH LIGHTER GREEN TRIM.  I KIND OF LIKED THE PURPLE COLOR AS IT ALWAYS SEEMED A LITTLE ARTSY.

THE SEBRING CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS APPROVED A THIRD AMENDMENT TO THEIR COMMERCIAL LAND CONTRACT WITH CALIBRE INVESTMENT GROUP FOR HARDER HALL ALLOWING THEM ANOTHER 60 DAYS TO GET THINGS STRAIGHTENED OUT WITH HUD.   THE COMPANY STILL INTENDS TO BUILD IN PHASES AND WILL TOTALLY REHAB THE EXISTING BUILDING INTO 80 INDEPENDENT LIVING UNITS, CAFETERIA SPACE, AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY, MEMORY CARE UNITS, AND POSSIBLY NURSING CARE FACILITIES.  FOUR ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS WILL BE BUILT WITH ASSISTED LIVING, OFFICE SPACE AND INDEPENDENT LIVING FACILITIES ON THE PROPERTY.  AND SO IT CONTINUES.....................................
