Message from Ernie Kelly, VPHA President
Welcome back to all our post-holiday snowbirds!
Our new pool has recently had some warranty work done on the deck area, but all is complete now except for some minor tile work when supplies are available. The new pool drain cover required by law as of December, 2008, will probably be delayed until after March, due to lack of supply and the difficulty of installation. It’s not as simple as hoped for originally. Just a reminder, our pool is for use by residents and overnight guests only.
The new gutters and downspouts have been installed on the front and parking sides of the clubhouse. Everything seems much better!
It’s time to pass along some safety concerns that we all need to address in the community. Walkers, including pet walkers, should stay on the LEFT side of the road, facing oncoming traffic. All bicyclists should be on the right side of the road, riding with the normal traffic flow (not facing traffic). Please remember to carry a visible light or wear reflective clothing after dark or early in the morning before sunrise.
Pet owners are reminded that all pets are to be leashed at all times. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pet no matter where you are within the Vantage Pointe community.
If you are planning on updating your landscaping, please remember to leave at least five feet between plantings at full growth so that the lawn maintenance staff can complete their job without problems.

Beside
the Point
A new IKEA store will open in Tampa next summer. It is being built on 29 acres along Route 60 at 22nd Street, and will display 50 room settings, three complete model home interiors, and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties as well as American dishes. IKEA stores are fascinating places to visit for a huge variety of stylish, practical furnishings that are of excellent quality and reasonably priced. Obviously they’re not concerned that the distressed economy will impact their particular area of commercial success. Maybe we can hire a bus and make a day of it there next fall.
Highlands Art League is sponsoring a national competition of juried original art which will be on display from February 20 through March 26. 125 entries have been submitted from local artists and other talented people willing to ship their work from California, New York, and many other states, for the chance to win a prize of $300, $700, and $1000. A reception will be held at the Art League Friday, Feb. 20, from 5:00 – 8:00 and the public is cordially invited.
