Creating and using FOLDERS....
Saving Pictures....
Think of a FOLDER as a place where you can place information, pictures or other data where you will have easy access to it.... My main use is to store pictures in it... For instance, I have folders that are labeled "Vantage Pointe" where I store the pictures that are on this website....I also have folders that are labeled "Spaghetti Dinner", Birthday", "TEMP", "Archives", Misc, etc....At present I have 16 folders on my desktop, ready for immediate access....
I was at my brother-in-law's house one day several years ago and I asked him how he created the folders he had on his computer.....He said his seven year old grandson had showed him how.... He then showed me and I use them extensively every day....
So how do you do this????
You move your cursor to a blank spot on your desktop screen....
Right click and a menu will appear....
Move the cursor to NEW (do not click on it), another menu will appear with FOLDER in it...
Click on FOLDER, an icon will appear that has NEW FOLDER highlighted at the bottom ... Now is the time to type in the name that you want the folder to have, such as "Caribbean Cruise" or "Key West Trip", Misc, etc....
OK, so now that you have created a folder, what good is it and how do you use it???
I will start by showing you how to save pictures that you get in an e-mail and also how to store pictures that you have loaded into your computer from your camera or a CD....
To save a picture into the folder that you have
rec'd by e-mail, simply Right
Click on the picture and a menu will appear
(not always, but 9 times out of 10 it will),
click on SAVE PICTURE AS,
it will bring up a screen that has a name across the
top, note the little arrow at the right of the name....This is called a "pull
down menu"... This is common throughout computers..... Click on the arrow and
look for your folder called "Cruise pix" or whatever you have named your
folder.... Click on SAVE at the bottom and
it will save it to that folder....Try saving the picture below of my
granddaughter and great grandson to your
folder....

You may want to print this TIP out for future reference.....
When you go back to the main body of this website, if you see a picture in one of the activities that you would like to save to a folder and then e-mail to someone, simply follow the instructions above by right clicking on the picture and saving it to a folder....
You may also usually save most pictures you find while on the internet by the same method of right clicking and then saving.....
When you download the pictures from your camera into your computer you can now have a named place to save them rather than in My Pictures or My Documents.... I won't go into how to download your pictures from your camera into your computer as that depends on too many variables and depends upon what programs you have.....
Viewing what you have within your folder..
By double clicking on your folder, it will bring up a screen....If you look to the left near the top, you will see VIEW AS AS A SLIDESHOW.... Click on that and it will bring up your pictures within that folder, .....By clicking anywhere on the screen, it will change the pictures, one at a time.....
Normally you will be going into the folder to extract a picture to either print it or to include it in an e-mail.... (I will cover this in my next TIP)....When you go into the folder, you may or may not be able to see the pictures...They may be just listed with a long number which doesn't mean a thing to you.....Don't panic..... At the top in the toolbar you will see what I guess could best be described as a calendar with colored squares in it..... Click on it and it will bring up a menu.... Click on THUMBNAILS and it will bring up small pictures (called thumbnails, duh!!!) of what is in the folder....You may then click on a thumbnail to bring it up to use as I will later describe as I don't want to throw too much at you at one time.....
My next TIP will show you how to include pictures you have saved in your folders in your e-mails and also how to obtain, save and include animated characters in your e-mails.... This is the fun part....In the meantime, try saving the below animations into a folder, same as previously described.....

If you want to forward this tip, click on your mouse and drag it over the text to highlight it...Then hold down the CTRL key and depress "C'..... This will copy all of the text..... You may then go into the "write" mode of an e-mail that you are composing and use CTRL "V", this will paste the text into your e-mail that you are writing.... You can use this method on most items that you want to copy and then paste somewhere else....
