Best Wishes for Health and Happiness in the New Year
BOARDWALK
Message from President Ernie Kelly: It’s the beginning to a New Year, so “Happy New Year” to everyone within the Vantage Pointe community. With the New Year come some changes to our little community as well. The board accepted the resignations of both Flo Goode and Mike Langland from the Board of Directors at the end of December, due to health concerns. At its January workshop, the board discussed filling the two vacancies and Debbie Siver was appointed to fill the remaining two years of Mike Langland and Doris Heading was appointed to fill the one year remaining on Flo Goode’s term and take over as treasurer.
The irrigation committee will be working this week to relocate roadside sprinklers on Pointe West, to prevent damage during the street reconstruction. County road and bridge crews will be starting work Tuesday, Jan. 19, removing paving and putting a shell base down. Residents on Pointe West will be able to drive on the street, park in their driveways etc., but there may be some temporary inconvenience from the work.
The shuffleboard courts will be refinished during the first week of February by NIDY Sports, Inc. of Sanford, FL. This is a necessary maintenance to keep our courts in good playing shape for our residents. When this work is done, we will be able to use beads on the courts regularly, which will make them more enjoyable to play on.
The board acted to remove the organ from the clubhouse since it no longer works and is not repairable anymore. Earl Brown was designated to investigate the purchase of a new sound system for the clubhouse, so that everyone could speak and be heard at meetings and social events in the future.
Thank you, Flo Goode, for all the time and devotion you put into being treasurer of VPHA.
Thank you, Mike & Mabel Langland, for the unselfish giving of your time and efforts to the social committee these past years. Everyone at Vantage Pointe has been enriched because of your efforts.
Our neighbor Doris Sims passed away in Michigan on December 13. She lived at 1304 Pointe East.
Canadian neighbor Lester Flood of 4114 Vantage Circle passed away on December 15.
Vantage Pointe extends heartfelt condolences to all their family and friends.

Recognizing A Stroke
When they occur suddenly, the following may be symptoms of a stroke: numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body; confusion, difficulty speaking or understanding ; trouble seeing in one or both eyes; trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. A neurologist can often totally reverse the effects of the attack, if he can attend a stroke victim within three hours. Symptoms of a stroke are not always easy to identify. Frequently the patient is completely unaware of the seriousness of his condition.
Easy to remember – STR
A bystander can sometimes recognize a stroke with three simple things:
1. S - Ask the individual to SMILE.
2. T - Ask him or her to TALK, SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently.
3. R - Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If the patient has trouble doing any of these things, 911 should be called immediately and the symptoms described to the dispatcher.
The razing of Barnhills and all the trees around it really opened up that corner of New Life Way and Rte. 27. When a new Aldi market is built there, it will be interesting to see if Sebring consumers will deposit 25 cents for a grocery cart, unload their purchases and then return it for a refund. Consensus: Aldi will need to offer some seriously competitive inducements in order to attract shoppers.
MOSI wants you to know they will be having a very special exhibit about Leonardo Da Vinci, high-lighting his Mona Lisa, from February 13 through May 31. More information online, or contact events coordinator probison@mosi.org
Viewpoint will be posted to anyone who provides a SASE, and e-mailed to you if we have your correct address. Please pass the word to anyone not receiving a copy.
